| "Why?" Sigurd looks at me, his face reddens. "Yes. Tell me why you killed Fafni." My fingers play with his long golden hair. By the mercy of the gods I manage to curb the wish to rip it from his skull. I look at him with a half-smile, trace his jawline with my index finger. "Bryn told me to do it." He looks down, sighs. "I was kind of under her spell. I would have done whatever she asked. Just to make her happy. And she was always nice to me. Not like you." He smiles at me, and I feel kind of sorry for him. "You never liked me, you told me yourself." My voice is taunting. "I never understood you. But I wanted you since we were kids." "You tried to rape me when we were kids." He looks away, nods. "I thought you wanted me to take you. That you wanted to be... conquered." "Did Bryn tell you that? No, don't even answer." Sigurd sighs, takes my hand. Kisses my palm. "I'm sorry, Mist. Sorry for everything. I wish I could just go back, to tell you how crazy I'm about you." "Makes no difference now. You chose Bryn." "She chose me." Sigurd kisses my fingers, his mouth is burning hot. I see the ache in him, the longing, the want, the pain. He is ready to offer it all to me. Too little too late. Sigurd kisses my shoulder, fever-hot lips slide down my body, his eyes close as he breathes in my scent. Sighs. "You claimed me for Freya." " We will leave for Folkvang tomorrow. Maybe visit Valhalla." He opens his eyes. "I always wanted to meet Oden. I heard he is formidable. And generous." I smile. "He gave you to me." He smiles back at me, oblivious of Oden's plan for him. To be honest, I myself may be oblivious of his plan. Only aware of mine. Not really lining up with Hreidmar's plan. They are quite different. |
