I keep quiet about the other two meanings, the shitload of treasure he will no doubt fall into ass backwards. And his impending death at the hand of Gunnar. Provided Odin doesn't take me out for snuffing Bryn. The crash of thunder makes the whole hall shake. A tall black figure appears against the backdrop of the green flames engulfing the entrance. I suck in some air, take a step closer. No enemy will see me run. The black figure kneels down. "Sky?" I can't believe my eyes. "Property of Mist." His eyes shine. "I am so happy to see you again, Maiden." I have no idea how Hreidmar managed to get here in time to stop Odin from killing me. Or what he said. Even if the Asa gods respect dragons, Odin could have taken him. Easily. "Don't forget, you are the daughter of Icewater Pin as well." Hreidmar's massive forehead rests against mine. I hear his thoughts in my mind, he no longer needs to speak them loud. "Is she feared?" "Water dragons keep this realm floating on the oceans, daughter. Their kin is older and mightier than the dynasties. No living creature would move against them. Their wisdom is endless." "I had no idea." "The ancient peoples and their gods in the East keep the secret, so the water dragons remain in their realm. Their presence blesses anything they touch." "Tell me how you met." "Later. Hreidmar gently strokes my hair with the tip of his tail. "Freya wants you to remain her swan maiden. Even as Menace. Even if you become Odin's maiden and ride with the fold of his shield maidens. I believe in your wisdom and compassion." I sigh, wishing I trusted myself as Hreidmar trusts me. Sky can't stop kissing me, and it feels lovely. "I think I'm in love with you. I kept dreaming about you. Terrible, scary dreams. But I was happy to see you in my dreams, reagardless." His voice is silent, his gaze averted. I reach up, take hold of his face. Look into his blue eyes. See his bared soul. "I think I'm in love with you, too. Been for a long time." |
